Behind the Build Tour for Work Related Skills Class
16/06/2023On Monday 26 May, the Year 11 Work Related Skills class was privileged to be one of the first groups to tour the new Mercy Junortoun Sports Precinct $28 million dollar facility at Coolock Campus. The students were led on a tour by Project Manager, Josh Gill who explained the processes of the build and showed off the state-of-the-art technology including the courts, seats, lights, court screen and watering systems. The students were suitably impressed and envious of the students coming after them who will benefit from such amazing facilities!
Josh also discussed the tender process, the various trades, companies and working hours involved as well as the significant compliance requirements. He also spoke about other variables such as the weather, the impact of hold ups and the use of local suppliers wherever possible. Finally, Josh shared his journey from tradesman to Project Manager and the variety of skills required across the Nicholsons Constructions project management team.
Site Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Manager, Garret Pinnell also spoke to students about the health and safety requirements of the site. A big thank you to Josh and Garret for taking time out of their busy schedule to conduct the tour and for the insightful commentary.
