Ashlee chosen for Australia
16/05/2019Ashlee selected to represent Australia at the Wildwater Kayaking World Championships
Year 11 student, Ashlee Ilott, has been selected to attend this year’s International Canoe Federation Junior and U23 Wildwater Kayaking World Championships in Bosnia and Herzegovina, to be held in July. This is a huge privilege for Ashlee and comes after plenty of commitment and success in a sport that is very hard to train for in this area.
Ashlee has had a standout season which has seen her compete at many events with great success and with much improvement on her personal bests. She is the Victorian State Champion for both the State Championships and the Victorian Schools Marathon and Sprint held in Nagambie.
Ashlee’s dedication to the sport has been rewarded with the honour of selection for the Junior Australian Team to attend the Junior and U23 World championships. Ashlee has increased her training sessions to ensure she is well prepared for the event and is looking forward to competing at such a high level.
There are many challenges and complications to travelling so far away in a sport like this, such as how to get a kayak to Bosnia and Herzegovina for competitions. As a result, her family has to purchase a kayak over there as it is cheaper than transporting one, an expensive exercise to say the least. Ashlee is very lucky to have such support from her family but would be appreciative if anyone is able to assist with sponsorship if they could contact her or contribute to the Go Fund Me page https://www.gofundme.com/let039s-get-aussie-athlete-ash-to-bosnia.
