Arts awards announced at the Arts & Technology Festival
23/10/2019The 2019 Senior Art and Technology Exhibition showcased an awe-inspiring range of creative and skilled pieces by VCE students. The St Mary’s Hall was packed with a wide variety of work from Arts, Studio Arts, Media, Visual Communication Design and Product Design & Technology. A selection is included in the gallery below.
Creative Arts Captain, Blaze Houlden, read the Acknowledgement of Country and welcomed students, staff, family and friends to the exhibition and awards ceremony:
“This evening is not only a way to showcase beautiful artworks, clever designs and competent skills across a range of platforms, it is also a recognition of the consistent effort and dedication it takes to work through a creative process. Pushing and forming ideas into something that will inspire for weeks, sometimes months. The journey includes learning new skills, exploration, failures and successes. It is about taking that initial idea and turning it into something special – making it be the best it can be, whether it be an artwork, a piece of design, video or a performance. To all the parents who have travelled through this process as well – we thank you. We congratulate our arts and technology students for the dedication and effort they have displayed this year.”
The Awards were announced by Blaze and presented in St Mary’s Courtyard by arts and technology teachers.
We were delighted to welcome back Mrs Sharon Cruise, a long-time teacher of Art at our College. She spoke about the importance of arts education and the annual JRS Award (formerly the Marcia King Award). This award is donated and judged by Marcia King, a past student and professional artist. Marcia re-named the award last year to honour Josie Lowerson, Rhonda Alexander and Sharon Cruise who were her art teachers while at Catholic College Bendigo.
