Art and Design Review
15/05/2019Students at Coolock have been working on the creative process, their design skills and exploring different techniques in various media.
Oil Pastel & Perspective
Year 7 Art and Design students who have been working with oil pastel and perspective.
Ceramics
Year 7 and Year 8 Art Design students created miniature figurines as a warm up activity. As an introduction to clay, how it feels, responds and can be manipulated, each student made a small animal form from a block of clay. No clay could be removed or added but could be moved around the surface to create the final form. Skills in smoothing and gently shaping the features finished the forming activity. Coloured slips were then applied, ready for a high firing in the kiln.
Year 7s have moved on to creating a fruit with pinch pots that will be used in a still life piece, while Year 8 students are working to a client brief to create a vessel using pinch and coil construction.
Pop-Up Messages of Sustainability
Year 9 Art students explored Sustainability as a theme in Veritas during Term 1. In art classes they carried this theme through to a visual presentation. Students explored a variety of themes including litter, ocean pollution, recycling and others. They then developed skills in the mechanics of pop-up construction and explored a variety of wet and dry media. The emphasis of the task was to convey a visual message through illustration with layers and depth being considered in the composition.
