Anzac Day Observances 2023
04/05/2023LEST WE FORGET
Students led our Commemoration assemblies on the first day of term, a time for students and staff to reflect on the history and present-day significance of Anzac Day. Thank you to all involved for your respectful involvement, especially during the minutes silence. A special thank you to Liam (Yr 11) for his spine-tingling playing of the ‘Last Post’ and ‘Reveille’ at both ceremonies.
At St Mary’s, the helmet on display was kindly lent by Mr Daff, IT staff member and Ex-Serviceman TPR C.Daff, B SQN, 1st Armoured Regiment, 1 BDE.
Also on display was a beautiful Poppy Carpet, which was gifted to CMC by ‘The 5000 Poppies Project’.
On Anzac Day, student leaders Rose, Zac and Sophie and Mr Baird attended the Bendigo RSL Anzac Day Morning Service to lay a wreath on behalf of our College. They also caught up with student representatives from St Kilian’s and St Francis in the Fields.
“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.”
(From ‘For the Fallen’ by Laurence Binyon)
