About Mercy Works, our Term 3 fundraising focus
This term we are fundraising for our friends at Mercy Works. Mercy Works is an organisation that improves the lives of vulnerable people. We, and the team at Mercy Works, believe that regardless of where you live, everyone has the right to education, health care and social welfare. But the problem is that not everyone does, and Mercy Works is trying to change that. They work in countries like Timor-Leste and Papua New Guinea and even our own country of Australia to give challenged communities the right to these basic resources.
This term, all the money we raise will be going towards Mercy Works projects in Timor-Leste. Timor-Leste faces many struggles due to demands of the 21st century, such as education facilities and effective infrastructure. So, to help with the problems that the country is currently facing, Sr Helen assisted in establishing a pilot pre-school and taught teachers the fields of both education and nutrition. Sister Helen Nolen left Timor-Leste at the end of 2016, so with the support of Sr Anne, they have continued to build upon the foundation established by Sr Helen and Mercy Works in the Diocese of Maliana.
There will be opportunities throughout the term to donate money to Mercy Works, such as Mercy Day which is coming up at the end of term.
