A Magical Book Week in 2024
27/08/2024READING IS MAGIC
Book Week 2024 has sadly come to a close. This year, Catherine McAuley College Bendigo (CMCB) has continued to bring big book energy to our celebrations, including eye-catching, magical displays and plenty of opportunities to get involved and have some fun, all while celebrating books. The Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) theme this year was Reading is Magic and the library team at Coolock did not disappoint – dressing up as the characters in the C. S. Lewis Narnia book, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The Narnia movie was played during break times in the library throughout the week. Various competitions were run with prizes including gift vouchers, chocolates, certificates and bookmarks. (Scroll down for galleries)

SHADOW JUDGING PANEL
This year was our first year participating in the CBCA Shadow Judging program. Our panel of shadow judges was comprised of Tyler Glazner, Sebastian Dove, Laura Sewell, Celeste Davies and Sadie Field. Each panel member committed to reading all six of the Children’s Book Council of Australia shortlisted books for younger readers. Each member of the panel read 1,450 pages throughout the term. Each shortlisted book was judged with careful consideration according to the same criteria as the CBCA judges used. The panel also published a range of creative responses to these books including a Spotify music playlist, a digital artwork and a board game from CMCB. These can be found here: https://shadowjudging.cbca.org.au/all-creative-responses/
Homage to the book The sideways orbit of Evie Hart by Samera Kamaleddine (digital collage by CMCB shadow judges)
It was an absolute joy to share our love of reading, literacy and all things book-related at the Coolock Library. Next year’s theme has already been announced: Book an Adventure. We look forward to sharing another bumper Book Week with you all next year.
