The cast and crew are excitedly putting the final touches on the show that will hit the Ulumbarra stage in just two weeks! Katerina Pizzo (Year 10) spoke to them at the recent production intensive days to find out about their experiences so far:
What do you enjoy about the production?
“I love the good sense of community and the group. I definitely made heaps of new friends in each year level and I really enjoy the music.” (Kai Humphrey, Year 7)
“My favourite song is probably the last song, which is Don’t Stop Believing, as it is the closing scene and we are all doing it together.” (Tessa Murphy, Year 9)
What is something you have learnt from the production?
I’ve grown more confident in my singing, as I had never ever sung in front of anyone until now.” (Maeve Bowman Year 9)
“I learnt how to act and become more of a character when performing.” (Tilly Howman, Year 9)
Would you consider being part of the production again?
“I would more likely do production again and get more involved in outside school activities, like theatre and acting.” (Alfonse Basha, Year 9)
It’s an amazing opportunity, I love working with the dancers every year and will probably continue this role until I graduate. I really enjoy every bit of it.” (Abby Perdon, Year 10)
What would you say to those who aren’t sure about being part of the production in the future?
“The school production is really fun. It may seem like rehearsals are sometimes boring, but at the end of it, it’s really worth it.” (Elisha Field, Year 9)
“Even if you think it isn’t your thing, just give it a go because there are so many different roles that you can do to be part of the production. If you don’t want to be on stage, you can always be a part of backstage.” (Amber Smith, Year 9)

About the Show
The annual Catherine McAuley College production is a highlight of the performing arts calendar, bringing together talented students in a variety of roles on and around the stage in the stunning Ulumbarra Theatre. This year’s production Rock of Ages: High School Edition is a high-energy show which will appeal to all the family.
Rock of Ages: High School Edition takes you back to the times of big bands with big egos playing big guitar solos and sporting even bigger hair! This Tony Award-nominated Broadway musical features the hits of bands including Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, and others.
It’s the tail end of the big, bad 1980s in Hollywood, and the party has been raging hard. Aqua Net, Lycra, Heavy Metal flow freely at one of the Sunset Strips last legendary venues, a place where legendary rocker Stacee Jaxx takes the stage and groupies line up for their chance at an autograph. Amidst the madness, aspiring rock star (and resident toilet cleaner) Drew longs to take the stage as the next big thing (and longs for small-town girl Sherri, fresh off the bus from Kansas with stars in her eyes). But the rock and roll fairy-tale is about to end when German developers sweep into town with plans to turn the fabled Strip into just another capitalist strip mall. Can Drew, Sherri and the gang save the strip – and themselves – before it’s too late? Only the music of hit bands Styx, Journey, Whitesnake and more hold the answer.
