Term 4 Social Justice Focus

Throughout Term 4, the College focused on supporting our local Bendigo community, recognising that many do it tough during the Christmas and New Year period. Students were encouraged to bring a pantry item to school for Bendigo Foodshare. In the last week of the term, Bendigo Foodshare collected all the donations from our Food Drive. This included the donated goods packed into food hampers by Year 7 students during their Community in Action Day, along with over 100 meals prepared by the Year 7 Community in Action Group.
Bendigo Foodshare expressed their gratitude to the College community for helping so many people and the team were thrilled to advise that this year’s effort surpassed last year’s donation.
A total of 480kg of food has been donated, including:
- 56kg of frozen meals (120 meals)
- 424kg of pantry staples (food drive and baked biscuits)
Bridget Bentley, Community Engagement Manager at Bendigo Foodshare said “At Bendigo Foodshare we make it easy for the community to get involved in helping us tackle food insecurity – people can help by volunteering, making meals, growing food, fundraising for us, food drives, and more. Catherine McAuley College Bendigo is a great example of how easy it is to get involved, the value this has to their students and whole school community, and the power of collective impact – together we achieve more.”
CMCB’s partnership with Bendigo Foodshare has ensured that people in our own community have had access to food this year. Thank you to everyone who has contributed towards this partnership. Bendigo Foodshare was blown away yet again by our Mercy hospitality and service.
Bendigo Foodshare is still seeking donations of pasta and rice. If anyone would like to donate, CLICK HERE for more information.
