MJSP a Wonderful Asset For the Community

10/12/2024

The Mercy Junortoun Sporting Precinct (MJSP) in its first 12 months has not only become an integral part of scheduling our Physical Education (PE) curriculum but also for the community.

Our PE staff no longer need to check the rain radars before class, as the students can participate in multiple areas.

The Greater Bendigo community and visitors to the area have been amazed by the facilities we offer. Below are some of the highlights of 2024.

  • Utilisation of the MJSP by 46 community organisations for basketball, netball, pickleball, futsal, badminton, baseball, cricket, football, school holiday programs, disability programs and sporting academy programs.
  • Overall, MJSP has been booked for 1,492 hours. If counting individual hire areas, the hours booked totals 3,690.
  • A total of 654 bookings, with the 106 bookings in September 2024 being the busiest month to date.
  • 24,186 participants going through the doors with the vast majority being juniors.
  • The use and long-term agreement with Kelly Sports and their school holiday programs, futsal and other junior programs.
  • Victorian Aboriginal Community Services Association Limited (VACSAL) playing their junior football and netball carnival. There were 61 netball and 32 football teams with crowds totalling 6,000 over two days.
  • The Bendigo Eaglehawk Badminton Association playing their Masters tournament.
  • Assisting to host the Bendigo Basketball Junior Classic.
  • Richmond FC and their Korin Gamadji Institute for Indigenous youth playing an AFL 9s event.
  • Hosting the Australasian Mercy Secondary Schools Association (AMSSA) event over 4 days.
  • The cricket hub being part of many representative teams junior and senior selection trials.
  • Fifteen local cricket clubs utilising the cricket hub in addition to Cricket Victoria and the Melbourne Renegades.
  • Hosting the female cricket finals for juniors and seniors.

Thank you to all users in our first full year of operation – we look forward to continuing to grow, with plenty of action planned for 2025.

We especially thank Mr Craig Green, Sporting Precinct Manager, for his dedicated management of the facilities throughout the year.
