Intermediate Girls
In a highly anticipated SSV State Semi-Final, the Intermediate Girls Cricket team went into the match hoping they could play some great team cricket on the back of their previous matches. Their opponent in the Semi-Final was a strong team from McKinnon Secondary College.
McKinnon won the toss and elected to bat first and soon showcased their batting prowess, posting an impressive total of 4/186 off their 20 overs. McKinnon’s innings was impressive; however, the CMCB girls never gave up, particularly in the field.
Madeline White shone, not only with her bowling to claim one of McKinnon’s opening batters, but she also took a brilliant catch that helped secure another key wicket. Layla O’Brien, Lexie Fennell, and Charli Simmonds also contributed to the wicket tally, each claiming a scalp. The girls chased down everything they could in the field and rallied late with most girls getting a bowl.
In response, the girls knew they faced a challenging task to make the runs as they came up against a formidable bowling attack. Madeline White led the charge with the bat, scoring a resilient 17 runs, while Isabella Monotti provided solid support with a top score of 20. Chella Fitzgerald added 9 runs, and Layla O’Brien 7, but despite their efforts, the team struggled to find rhythm against McKinnon’s disciplined, and at times, very fast bowling attack. The girls managed to bat out their 20 overs, finishing their innings at 5/79 runs.
Despite the defeat, the girls showed great determination and resilience against a very talented opposition. Their sportsmanship was evident throughout, and they all enjoyed the opportunity to play against a very talented team.
Thanks to Riley Travaglia and Mannix Grieve who came along to assist on the day with the scoring and umpiring.
