Tobie and Archer headed for AFL teams

23/11/2024

Congratulations to Archer Day-Wicks and Tobie Travaglia who were selected in last week’s draft – Tobie by St Kilda and Archer by Essendon. Both have been integral members of the CMCB Senior Football Team over the past three years. Both were Year 12 captains this year and we thank them for their outstanding leadership and commitment to the College. We wish them all the best with their exciting career moves!

Archer Day-Wicks has been an integral member of the Catherine McAuley College Bendigo Football Team over the past three years. From the beginning of Year 10 he made his mark on our senior team, making an immediate impact as a match-winning X factor who produced on the biggest stages. He made our forward 50 dynamic and kept opposition defences guessing with his ability to take hangers in the air and achieve the unimaginable when the ball hit the ground. His goal celebrations in particular became a must-see event when a number of times he ran from one end of the field to the other, bringing his team mates into the game and acknowledging them for their hard work up the field. His ability to make something from nothing, his passion for school football and driving his team to success was always on show and during Year 11 he played some of the most skilful and creative football we have seen in years.  Archer was unfortunately not able to compete in our College team this year due to the State Championships, however he made his impact on the team in more ways than one, showing his passion and desire for success of our College team. He was in charge of our pre-game pump-up speeches where he spent many hours putting together motivational content to ensure our boys were ready to go. He was also our forward line coach and bought in many new ideas for our set ups in the attacking half of the field. His commitment to our school football program has been immense and we can’t wait to watch his career move into the future.

Tobie Travaglia has been an instrumental member of the Catherine McAuley College Bendigo  (CMCB) Football Team for over three years. Starting out in Year 10 he made his debut and quickly showed that he was able to match it with much bigger bodies. His leadership became apparent from his attitude and determination throughout Year 11 where he took on responsibility of our midfield and led our team with professionalism and a hard edge around the contest. He single-handedly won our first match of the season last year when he realised we needed to score and put himself forward to win the match. Throughout the rest of this season his confidence and leadership continued to grow and he would always stand up in big moments and battle to the very end. This hard edge was the imprint he left behind for our team. Due to State Championship commitments, Tobie was unable to play for CMCB in 2024, however, this did not stop him from sharing his leadership and football knowledge with our group. He took on the role of full-time runner, delivering messages with energy and passion and, as midfield coach, shared his knowledge of set ups and running patterns with the team. We are incredibly proud of his effort this year where he has shown all in our community that you can achieve your dreams when you put in the hard work and never give up. To be named captain of the Vic Country Team and then be drafted at Pick 8 is a testament to his hard work and dedication over the past three years. We will all be following his career every step of the way!
