A Journey of Community, Hospitality, Compassion, and Justice

Four of our Year 9 and Year 10 students, Ruby Bath, Madeline De Haan, Sebastian Dove and Chloe Vincent, recently attended the Mercy Schools Seeds of Justice Camp in Anglesea, an enriching experience focused on the theme of Mercy is Community, Hospitality, Compassion, and Justice. The camp brought together students and staff from Mercy schools across both metropolitan and regional areas, providing a unique opportunity to foster new connections, deepen understanding of the Mercy charism and explore the call to social justice in our world today.

The camp aimed to form both students and staff in the Mercy charism, focusing on the values that underpin the legacy of Catherine McAuley. Through a variety of workshops, group discussions, and reflection activities, participants were challenged to engage with contemporary social justice issues and reflect on how the principles of Mercy – hospitality, compassion and justice – can be lived out in their daily lives.

In addition to raising awareness of global and local justice concerns, the camp also encouraged students to think about how they can take meaningful action within their own communities. Through learning about Mercy in Action, students were inspired to immerse themselves further in initiatives that align with these core values, including service to the marginalised, environmental sustainability and advocacy for social change.
