Year 9 News – 25 July 2024

25/07/2024

Welcome back for Term 3. It has been terrific to see students catching up with friends, sharing experiences and returning to learning. To support the latter, parents and carers are asked to check that students have correct workbooks, stationery and other resources, such as calculators, for their subjects.

Unfortunately, staff and students have noticed there has been a major increase in swearing, raised voices and derogatory comments being reported coming from Year 9 students in classrooms, the locker areas and the yard. As leaders on this campus, students are encouraged to be mindful of language, tone and volume of their conversations and interactions.

Information regarding the upcoming Year 9 Camp has now been distributed. If parents, carers or students have any questions or concerns, please contact the appropriate Student Advocate or Year Level Leader. Please note that the College’s Musician of the Year competition falls in camp week. Students who intend to participate need to see Mr Timmins or Ms Lake if this clashes with their allocated camp days.

Congratulations to:

Coby Hilson who recently became what is believed to be the youngest umpire to officiate a senior game for the Bendigo Umpires Association.  A great responsibility and achievement.

Eliza Evans who has returned from an 18-day Youth Track & Field tour of Canada with a silver and three bronze medals, along with new personal bests in both discus and javelin. A fantastic experience for Eliza to compete internationally, with the bonus of some sight seeing in both Canada and the USA.

Nicholas Harvey, Max Connick and Lexi Fennell who played in the National Basketball championships.  Nicholas and Max’s team finished 6th and Lexi’s 5th.

Grace Mulqueen and Cash Caldis who represented the College at the recent State Cross Country Championships at Yarra Valley Racecourse in tricky conditions. Despite falling at the start line Grace worked her way back through the field to finish 3rd.
