Year 9 News – 11 April 2024
10/04/2024At our final Year 9 assembly for Term 1, our student leaders took the opportunity to help plan and lead the assembly. Ably led by the Year Level Captains, Maggie Lamb and Lukas Toman who gave a Captains’ address, our House Captains presented information about upcoming events and individual subject happenings. This included the opportunities for students to participate in the National Ride to School Day, Athletics Carnival, Caritas Ks Walk for Water and the associated fundraising activities. Reports on activities from Active for Life, Outdoor Education and Leadership in Sport showed examples of community involvement and enjoyment. It was terrific to see these young leaders’ courage and willingness to plan and speak in front of their peers. We anticipate that they will all have further involvement in our future assemblies.
At this assembly we were fortunate to have Ms Holly Speed, the Activities Coordinator, speak about the process for sport team selection. Students were reminded that as well as sporting prowess, the following are considered when individuals are selected to represent the College: attendance, punctuality, work submission and social behaviour. Staff taking students to participate in interschool activities need to be confident that the students with them will always respect and follow the Student Code of Conduct.
Mr Matthew Smith, the Pastoral Care Director, also addressed the cohort. He emphasised the importance of Year 9s, as leaders of Coolock Campus, in role modelling and setting the tone for the Campus. Students were challenged to continue to fulfill this role and congratulated on their positive start to the year.
The assembly went on to recognise student achievements both within the College and wider community. It was terrific to be able to recognise and share these outstanding achievements. Parents/carers and students are asked to continue to inform us of achievements, so students can receive the appropriate acknowledgement.

Winter Uniform
A reminder that students are expected to wear full winter uniform from the first day of Term 2, Tuesday 16 April. Students and parents/carers are asked to check that all items, including blazers, fit and are ready prior to this date. Blazers are compulsory in Terms 2 and 3.
Goals for the cohort in Term 2 are to:
- Improve punctuality to classes. Arriving late to class disrupts the learning environment for others, impacts the teacher’s ability to deliver instructions and the student’s opportunity to commence the lesson on a positive note.
- Reduce the number of phone, AirPod and jewellery infringements.
We hope that all have had a restful and safe Easter and holiday break and look forward to seeing the Year 9 cohort continue to grow, lead and learn in Term 2.
