Production
Congratulations to more than 140 of our Year 9 students on their committed work over the last five months that culminated in a brilliant performance ‘Seussical’ at Ulumbarra last week. Almost 2000 people viewed the show and we have received overwhelmingly positive feedback. The students completed their review/debrief this week and a highlight for me was speaking with three Year 9 students afterwards who stated the following;
“I loved it that much, I am so sad that it is over. Being part of something that big, over such a long period of time was so special”
“I can’t believe that I performed on stage of such a great place – Ulumbarra. I’ll probably never do that again, what a great experience”
“I worked backstage and learnt so much about how things work. I really think that this could be a direction for me”.
Thanks to the parents for their commitment to all the ‘drop offs’ and ‘pick ups’. Congratulations to Mrs Kerry Turpie (Director), Ms Sarah Gross (Producer) and Ms Ashleigh Yeates (Musical Director) on their leadership of the entire experience. Also, thanks to the many staff who were involved across all facets of the production.
Athletics Carnival
Champagnat was victorious at our recent Athletics Carnival. The day occurred later in the year than normal, as the track has been totally replaced. We were most fortunate to have a perfect sunny day. It was a great day with twelve records broken. Congratulations to all students and a big thanks to Mrs Maree Pearce and Miss Rhiannon Hercus for their work in leading the day.
Furniture Planning Group
We have sought feedback from staff and students regarding furniture that will support the Learning and Teaching direction of the College. This has generated some excellent dialogue and we are excited by the commitment to not only fitting out the new building, but also replacing furniture in other spaces across the College. We recently formed a planning group to help synthesize the input and support us as we purchase this furniture. The following article has been explored with our staff and best explains the connection between furniture and our Learning and Teaching direction – https://goo.gl/NmqZry
Real Life Learning
We continue to seek to connect our students with real-life opportunities for learning. A recent example includes some of our Agriculture students, who have nominated to be part of the Wool Team to participate in the upcoming Australian Sheep and Wool Show. The students visited a farm to learn more about lamb marking. A big thank you to the Punton family for hosting us on their family farm.
