SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA – STATE SEMI FINAL

Cricket – Intermediate Girls

On Friday 10 November, the Intermediate Girls Cricket team played in the SSV State Semi Final in Melbourne. With the weather warm and sunny, it was the perfect day for cricket. The girls lost the toss and were sent into bat by Rowville Secondary College and they made a promising start against some very good bowling. Meg O’Callaghan (15) was the first wicket to fall and unfortunately from then on, the wickets fell consistently. Madeline Best (23*) did brilliantly to hold the middle order together, along with Milla Finch (6) as they showed great defiance by keeping the strong Rowville bowling attack at bay. The girls did brilliantly by managing to bat out their 20 overs and post a competitive total of 76.

The girls knew that it was going to be a challenge to contain Rowville in the field, however, they went out determined to give it their best. The girls created a few opportunities, but were unable to capitalise, as Rowville showed their class. They batted exceptionally well and coasted to a total of 77 in just 9 overs. Despite the loss, the effort by the girls, not just on this day, but over the three days of competition was brilliant. They should be very proud of the way they played all games, and what they achieved.

Congratulations girls on your amazing achievements, it is an impressive result to be State Semi Finalists.
Special thanks to Sam Scott who scored over all days of competition, and to Ms Rhiannon Hercus for attending on the day.
