Maths

This term, students have expanded their understanding of algebra and linear relations. They have worked on solving for unknowns using opposite operations, substituting into given formulas or rules and creating equations to represent a given real world scenario. Classes have now moved on to graphing linear relationships from tables or rules and determining a rule if given data. Students will discuss different types of gradients and how to determine where a graph cuts the x and y axes. For the final topic of the year, students will look at rates and ratios.

Health

In Health this term, students will develop an understanding of the application of First Aid to emergency situations, illness and injuries. By the completion of the unit, students will be able to apply and implement the Emergency Action Plan, administer CPR and use a defibrillator. They will also be able to identify the signs and symptoms of an illness or injury and apply the correct treatment. During the unit, they will have opportunities to practice skills such as bandaging, DRSABCD, CPR, Defibrillation, RICER and no HARM where appropriate.

Steam

In Year 8 STEAM, students have been learning about the structure of human eyes and have worked in small teams to follow the Design Thinking Process to design, laser cut and construct a prototype of a Hydraulic Arm that would assist in cataract surgery. Students have also completed an eye dissection to consolidate their learning. READ MORE about the Engineering Design Task.
