Agriculture students’ learning and teamwork breeds success

03/08/2023

Catherine McAuley College (CMC) students and staff were excited to return to the Australian Sheep and Wool Show (ASWS), which was held in Bendigo from the 14 to 16 July.

Students in Certificate II of Agriculture have been developing greater theoretical and practical understanding of livestock husbandry, planning, and showing of livestock and fleece judging in readiness for the ASWS.

We are delighted to announce that CMC received the Australian Fleece Competition Agricultural College and Schools Awards Reserve Champion for their Polwarth Fleece.

Students who participated in the show competition for the Polwarth Association had great success showing Polwarth breeders sheep from local and interstate studs such as Riverview, Moorabbee, Fairview, Taljade and Taljar.

Our students demonstrated teamwork, confidence and showmanship while working with industry. CMC students and teachers are enormously appreciative of the Polwarth Association and all the Polwarth exhibitors for their support, guidance and encouragement.

Special thanks also to the cattle exhibitors and Phil Hogan from Wattledene Farm for linking with CMC and extending our agricultural program.

Special thanks to our committed and hardworking Agriculture staff for making this learning experience possible for our students: Ms Kristy Coller, Mr Scott Vaughan and Mrs Teleah Thorne.
