Intermediate Volleyball teams’ strong show

Intermediate Girls
On Friday 3 March, the Year 9/10 girls played in a pool of three at the Sandhurst Division competition, competing against Creek Street Christian College and East Loddon P-12 College. The team performed particularly well, finishing first in the pool.

In the first game, the girls took on Creek Street, winning in two sets, 20-2 and 20-18. All members of the team played well, with some excellent serving from Rosie Meh and solid passing from Olivia Nicholls and Bella McManus.

In the second game, they had another win against East Loddon, 20-7, 20-8. All girls contributed with Molly Chalkley showing great court coverage and Mikaela Monzon setting with consistency.

Winning this pool put them into the Gold Pool to play for a place in the top three. Facing Crusoe College presented a greater challenge as they had a lot more experience in their team. The girls started strongly, sticking with them but finished 15-20, 17-20. Pallas Condon was a great stabiliser for the team and showed outstanding serving and setting skills.

The next game against Girton was also challenging and the girls showed great spirit. The final score was 15-20,16-20. Great serving by Claire Darke, solid work at the net by Eve Aurisch-McGrath, great spiking by Evie Nuttall and incredible athleticism from Shell Lar Moo.

A great effort for many first-time players.

The team successfully came third out of nine teams on the day. The team represented their College with tremendous manners, excellent attitudes and great sportsmanship.

Intermediate Boys
On Friday 3 March, the Year 9/10 boys participated in the Sandhurst Division Volleyball. They played against Bendigo South East College and East Loddon P-12 College in their initial pool of three teams and performed very well.

In the first game, the boys took on East Loddon, losing the first set and winning the second set, resulting in a draw, with CMC ahead in points scored. All members of the team played well with Hsar Ler Htoo really leading by example and getting points on the board.

In the second game, the boys had another draw against BSE, winning the first set and losing the second. Jamieson Bell had a stellar run of serves with a number of aces and Saw Ta K’Yaw kept us alive in the middle of the court. It was an exciting match that could have easily been a finals showdown. As a result, the boys finished top of their pool by percentage! Winning this pool put the boys into the Gold Pool to play for a place in the top three.

The next game against Eaglehawk was tough, with some solid defence from the opposition making it difficult to score. Nay Ta Gay did a great job in digging the ball back over the net in times where it looked like we’d lose the point and Sebastian Dalton was consistent with his pressure in spiking on their defence. The boys drew, taking the first set but losing the second.

The best match of the day took place against Weeroona College Bendigo who had a lot of very skilled players in their team. The boys stuck to their guns and won the first set, lost the second set and dragged themselves back to a draw in the third, set after being five points down with 60 seconds to go, running out the clock for the match. Levi Bowe had some awesome blocks at the net and Mar Ner Tee Klu smashed the serves home when we needed to regain some ground. A big shout out to Taw Klu Htoo and Daw Lar for getting their sets spot on for Hsar Ler and Sebastian to spike.

An amazing job from the team over the course of the day culminating in CMC placing second for the day with four draws! All the boys represented CMC with outstanding sportsmanship, competitiveness and respect for the other teams.

A special mention to Sebastian for a great job umpiring the BSE vs East Loddon match.
