Year 7 News

Year 7 SRC Members Announced

Earlier in the year, students in Year 7 had the opportunity to apply for a position on the CMC Student Representative Council (SRC). Students were required to complete an application form, before an interview with Mr Driscoll and Mrs Burke. All applicants are congratulated on the effort and time they put into applying – it was a difficult decision.

Congratulations to the following students who were selected to represent Year 7 on the SRC: Amelia Boase, Thomas Davie, Ava Harris, Sarah Le Guen and Ariela Sea.

We will present these Year 7 Student Representative Council members with their badges in front of the CMC student body at a later date.

We would also like to thank all our Year 7 students and families for the way they have started the term. We are working in a new environment and we are all in this together. Please keep up the great work and remember that if you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s mentor or subject teacher.

Food Technology

The Food Technology Term 2 Remote Learning Unit requires students to cook something each week (usually a recipe provided to them), take a photo of the end product, write a reflection and submit on SIMON. If they are unable to produce the recipe provided, students can cook something for their family, take a photo and complete a reflection on their own creation.

Hash Browns

Alex Turner made hash browns, cooking the entire recipe himself and finding it very satisfying grating potatoes and cutting onions. They tasted delicious!

Anzac Biscuits

This past week, Years 7 and 8 students have been cooking Anzac Biscuits. During war time, Anzac Biscuits were baked for the troops by the people back home. They were made of basic ingredients which kept well when sent on the long journey to Egypt. The recipe is below if you want to make Anzac Biscuits for Anzac Day.

Self-Isolation STEAM Design Task

COVID-19 has meant that millions of people around the world have gone into lockdown or self-isolation.

Year 7s final STEAM task for Term 1 was very topical – considering what challenges people in self-isolation due to COVID-19 (coronavirus) could face. What access to items and tasks would they find hard?

Students worked through the Design Thinking Process to invent an idea to solve one of the problems a person in self-isolation may be facing – walking the dog for example.

Finally, they created prototypes of their designs and along the way they learnt plenty of useful facts about coronavirus and self-isolation.
