Victorian School of Languages (VSL) Opens Centre at CMC
Croydon Maroondah College – Croydon Campus is the venue for the newest VSL Centre in the metropolitan area. There has been an increasing demand for language classes in the community and the Centre opened on the 11th of February with over 160 students in 11 classes.Classes are offered each Saturday morning from 9am till 12:20pm in the College classrooms. Native-speaking teachers in these languages instruct students in their respective languages and cultures. The Centre is likely to expand in the coming weeks with increasing interest being expressed for tuition in Korean and a further two Burmese languages Chin (Falam) and Zomi. The Centre has a very positive and happy atmosphere about it on a Saturday morning with sounds of cultural songs and reciting of alphabets and numbers, especially in the very junior classes. It is also a great asset to the College and its links with the local community. The Victorian School of Languages (VSL) is a state-wide, non-profit service of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, which has a proud record in teaching Languages Other Than English since 1935. The VSL is a complimentary provider assisting all Victorian government, Catholic and independent schools with their LOTE provision. Students who are unable to study their language of choice in their day school or who wish to extend their language study may enrol at the VSL.Currently the VSL offers 46 languages in 42 locations throughout Victoria, and 11 languages via Distance Education, catering for the needs of more than 15,000 Victorian students. The VSL is the biggest language provider in the State. It has an outstanding record and produces excellent VCE results.
